Fact or Fiction?

Throughout this course, I've learned not all things we were taught as children are accurate. I do not understand why we were lied to!?!? I guess we do not want to remember the bad things our country did but I feel like it is important to know all the facts, even the bad ones. Christopher Columbus is idealized as the founder of America and a great explorer but we learned that this is not the case. If younger students are too young to learn the truth about the mean things, why require to teach them? We need to wait until the students are mature enough to hear the truth and not fill their minds with lies and sugar coated stories.
